RENDEZVOUS#7

Stonefield, Rock band

Melbourne, Australia.

Amy, Sarah, Hannah & Holly Findlay

What’s the best and worst thing about being a band of sisters?

The best thing is being so comfortable and used to being stuck together for days on end while on tour or recording. Being able to read each other's moods and not take anything too seriously when we have an argument is such an advantage. The worst thing would have to be the fact that we have become so reliant on each other in so many ways.. it’s nice that we have that dependency, but I think that having more time and opportunity to grow as individuals over the years would have been helpful. We really don’t get much time away from each other - cute but annoying sometimes, (as you can imagine if you have siblings).

Tell us about your last album ‘Far From Earth’ that came out this year?

This record has been really important for us. It was the first time that we really felt like we took control of our art and did things our way. It’s so easy to get caught up in opinions, influences and your own thoughts, but we really pushed ourselves to get out of our comfort zone in order to get comfortable. Stylistically we evolved, had more space to experiment and breathe and really start emerging ourselves in the American psych-rock scene. It has made a lot of new friends for us and exposed us to so much more music and touring opportunities.

What can we expect from the band in 2019?

Definitely some new music and lots of shows. We have been working on a new record and it’s sounding heavier than anything we have written so far.

Apart from music, what do you do in your spare time?

We all have casual jobs that we work in-between tours and writing, so that keeps us busy. Sarah is an amazing photographer, Holly loves fashion and has started painting, Amy is obsessed with her large plant collection and Hannah loves the outdoors and hiking.

What is your favourite album of all time and why?

Such a difficult question! It’s forever changing, but our current one is Beak >>> and you can’t go past Rumours by Fleetwood Mac.. that will never get old.

How would you describe your style? Do you change your when you perform?

Our style is influenced by the 60s and 70s, with a modern touch.. we love denim, flares, jumpsuits and corduroy.. Our style when we perform is very much our everyday style, but perhaps a little more dressed up. Particular styles or cuts can sometimes be restricting for playing in, but generally, it’s pretty much what we would wear when going out.

Do you feel that there is a strong community in Melbourne amongst female musicians?

Yes, women generally are very supportive of other women, however, there is occasionally this weird competitiveness. We were recently involved with a really great film called Her Sound, Her Story. Through our involvement with that, we have never felt so at one, strong, understood and a part of something special.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

We would all love to play in India. We love the food, art and culture and think it would be a completely different experience playing to a crowd over there.
